Lobstercon 2025
I really bombed out. I was not prepped and had the foolish idea to play a silly deck day one, but here we are.
Day One
The Dante is a banger of a venue for any sort of weirdo event. On day one it was absolutely not too hot or too loud, and I was out here playing a very silly Oath of Druids list. Our goal day one was to cast Oath, hit a Ball Lightning or Blistering Firecat and go to town. I totally scrubbed out not having realized that queuing into any deck playing Mogg Fanatic, I'm functionally dead on plan A and those decks also leveraged the amount of self damage represented by 4 Karplusan forests, 4 Wooded Foothills and 4 Barbarian Rings. Day was absolutely a blast though and had me hyped for day two
Day Two
Day two I played a very serious deck that had a super rough weekend. We went with survival rock, a deck that's been having a bit of a moment, and just spent day two figuring out what the deck's rougher matchups were. I did chat with others on the deck and heard about some of the tech they were on that answered what I felt were weak points of the deck. Overall, GW enchantress (which wound up taking down the event) felt like a total wall of a deck to me, and I definitely felt like I was spewing value on my blind cabal therapies which is mostly on me for just not having a good prep system for that stuff. While my weekend wasn't anything to write home about the deck felt very solid barring things like a lack of life gain density and the lack of findable wraths that I already have solutions for
Props
- The venue was a banger, even if it got a bit sweaty/loud day 2
- The cheap deranged hermit I scored from TOA
- Every opponent was a delight and I had a great time just bantering, even in games I lost.
Slops
- My play could have been MUCH tighter and for next year I absolutely want to make sure I put in more time here.
- I do wish there was a clearer "lunch break" in the day's schedule but I managed to make it work.
